Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith, who has built his popularity among County voters by fanning the flames of fear and hatred of "illegal aliens", has apologized to Adam Levy for the libelous statements he made about Levy in 2014. The fact that Smith affirmed these statements under oath in 2015 would suggest that the Sheriff could be charged with perjury. Smith engaged in this smear campaign against Levy, who was at the time the Putnam County District Attorney, during a period when Levy was resisting some of the more egregious abuses of power by Smith. Smith picked an ally of his, Robert Tendy, to run against Levy in 2015 and with Levy's reputation tarnished by Smith's ongoing and now-acknowledged lies, Tendy won. Since then there has been no news of any further attempts to curb the Sheriff's abuses.
The next step would be for the county to advise the sheriff to resign, right? No, actually the next step is that we the taxpayers are going to pay $125,000 of the sheriff's $150,000 settlement for him.
OK, the next step would be that the DA would bring charges against Smith for the crimes he committed and try to recover the tax money spent on covering his crimes, right?
Not a chance, as long as the DA is Smith's protoge Tendy.
Anyone besides me angry?
